Ocean State Testing

Industry Involvement

OSTI played a major role when Saco Defense, a key supplier of firearms to the government, was forced to cease operating due to inadequate quality controls. OSTI was engaged as the Level III consultant to design and implement training and qualification programs for their Quality Control personnel.  We worked with DCASM, Boston to develop new techniques for MPI of all firearm parts.
Worked with General Dynamics/Electric Boat Division and the Navy in the design and development of a Phase Analysis Eddy Current system for the testing of submarine cuni gauge tubing.
Completed extensive contracts with Chamberlain Manufacturing of New Bedford, Mass. Performing FPI and MPI on shell bases and cones for government missles.
Recently completed contract with Wyman Gordon Co. performing ultrasonic examinations to the Nuclear requirements of NSTR Bettis. These forging would ultimately be manufactured by Babcock and Wilcox and delivered to the Navy as nuclear fuel rod containment vessels.
Have an open contract with Perkins-Elmer performing FPI on O & R oil seals for Jet Engines - both Commercial, Government and Pratt & Whitney. This testing is performed daily under the FAA Repair Station Operation Specifications.
Involved in the initial ultrasonic testing required by the QQ-N-286 specification subsequent to the K-500 cracking problem in the submarine building programs.  We have examined hundreds of feet of monel 500 bar stock for Teledyne Allvac.

Served as a major supplier to EG & G valve manufacturing division for welding and radiographing of cryogenic valves supplied to the Department of Energy.  We radiographed hundreds of CRES valves.
